Great Birmingham Run: Road Closures

The Bupa Great Birmingham Run is back on Sunday for a second year. Find out which roads will be closed and when.

A record 18,000 people are registered to take part and spectators will line the route to cheer them on.

This means there will be some disruption for traffic around the city.

 

Road Closures

They’ll start closing the following roads at 2am. All will be closed by 5am:

City centre routes…

  • Sand Pitts past BMW to Summer Row.
  • Lancaster Flyover, St Chads Circus Queensway to join Great Charles Street Queensway and then Paradise Circus.
  • Broad Street from Paradise Circus to Five Ways.
  • Hagley Road from Five Ways to Junction of Highfield Road and the Plough and Harrow pub.
  • Lee bank Middleway, under the underpasses towards Belgrave Middleway and up to the Curry’s Island

In Digbeth…

  • Upper Dean Street.
  • Moat lane.
  • Barford Street to Sherlock Street.
  • Sherlock Street to the belgrave middleway and the Pershore Road.

In Edgbaston…

  • Highfield Road from Hagley Road to Calthorpe Road.
  • Calthorpe Road, St James Road, Ryland Road and parts of Frederick and George Road.
  • Pershore Road from Belgrave Middleway, Right the way up through Selly Park to the junction of Hunts Road as you come into Stirchley.
  • Belgrave middleway, Longmore Street, Clevedon Road, Lincoln Street onto Willow Road.
  • Russell road by the side of Cannon Hill Park.

In Bourneville…

  • Bourneville lane, Vale Road and Lea House Road.

This road will be closed at some point between 8:30am and 9:30am:

  • Edgbaston Road from Priory Road to Salisbury Road.

 

Roads reopening

The following roads will reopen between 12 noon and 2pm:

  • Sand Pitts past BMW to Summer Row.
  • Lancaster Flyover, St Chads Circus Queensway to join Great Charles Street Queensway and then Paradise Circus.
  • Hagley road from five ways to Junction of Highfield road and the Plough and Harrow pub.
  • Lee Bank Middleway, under the underpasses towards Belgrave Middleway and up to the Curry’s Island.
  • Bourneville Lane, Vale road and top end of Pershore Road

These roads will open between 3pm and 4:30pm:

  • Broad Street from five ways to Sheepcote Street.
  • Hagley road from Highfield road/Plough and Harrow pub to Five Ways Island.
  • Calthorpe road, St James road, Charlotte Road and Ryland Road.
  • ALL ROUTES around Cannon Hill park, including Edgbaston Road.
  • Pershore road from Edgbaston road up towards dogpool lane in Selly Park.

The following roads will reopen at 6pm:

  • Broad Street from Paradise Circus Sheepcote Street.
  • Cambridge Street towards Parade.
