Man In Court Over Fatal Fire

Walsall fire final

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a pensioner who died in a fire at a block of flats near Walsall.

Aiden Elmore, 20, of no fixed abode, was remanded in custody until Friday after making a brief appearance at Walsall Magistrates’ Court.

Elmore is alleged to have murdered 68-year-old Victor Moore, whose body was found in a communal area at maisonettes in Southey Close, Willenhall, on Monday.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that Mr Moore died as a result of exposure to the fire.

Elmore, whose case was transferred to Wolverhampton Crown Court, is further accused of committing arson with intent to endanger life.

The arson charge relates to a separate blaze which broke out in the early hours of Monday in Wychbold Way, Willenhall.
