Third Arrest Over Teen Murder

Ben Morutare

A third 17-year-old has been arrested over the murder of a teenager in Smethwick.

16-year-old Ben Morutare was stabbed in the leg after an argument outside the Smethwick Home Guard and Old Comrades Club on Oldbury Road in July, where he had earlier attended an 18th birthday party.

Two lads, who are aged 17 and from Ladywood, appeared in court on Saturday charged with violent disorder.

Police then told us they had arrested a third 17-year-old on suspicion of the same charge.

Another 17-year-old lad was charged with murder back in August.

Despite the charges and further arrests, detectives continue to appeal for people who were in the area at the time of the incident to contact them.

Anyone with information should contact Force CID on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
